Moving your head hear to the head of someone who already has lice is enough to catch them. Although less likely, swapping scarves and hats with someone who is infested can trigger the little creatures to relocate to your head. It is best for children with long hair to wear it in a ponytail. This significantly reduces the risk of catching lice.
Yes, but not for very long. The little creatures can survive for around 24 hours outside the hair in moist conditions.
Itching is the first sign. If you notice that your son or daughter is often scratching his or her scalp, combing through the hair is the best way to find lice. This is an important step before you start the treatment. Check the dry hair for lice with a fine-toothed lice comb. Search for lice lock by lock. Look particularly closely at the roots, behind the ears and at the neckline. These are favourite spots for lice and their eggs. Rinse the comb in tepid soapy water after use to avoid further infestation. Do not worry if you find live lice, Elimax® is extremely effective. As lice reproduce very rapidly, we advise you to start the treatment without delay. Also do not forget to inform your child's school about the infestation.
Elimax® is generally tolerated well. Side effects are therefore very limited. Side effects that can occur are itching and irritation around the eyes, flaking of the scalp, contact irritation and redness of the scalp, ears or neck. As a general precautionary measure we recommend that pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding consult a pharmacist or doctor before using Elimax®.
Head lice only live in human hair and have to feed on human blood every 3 to 4 hours.
What's more, lice need a temperature of 30° and a moist environment to live. This means that lice don't survive for long outside the hair: a maximum of 24 hours, or 48 hours in the hardiest cases. Unlike fleas, lice never leave hair and are spread from one hair to another.
Apart from combs, brushes and bath towels used during the treatment itself, it is not strictly necessary to wash or disinfect personal items or household linen during an infestation or re-infestation. However, if you want to take additional steps, ensure no hair is caught on personal items such as hats, caps, hair ribbons or elastic ties, pillows or cuddly toys. Clean them or, if this is impossible, put them in an airtight plastic bag placed outside or in a cold place for 48 hours.
Check all members of the family with a lice comb. Only those people who have lice need to be treated. However, we recommend that the other family members are preventively treated with Elimax® Shampoo, because, as well as washing the hair, this also protects against lice.
Regularly check for lice with a lice comb so that you can swiftly take action if they strike. By doing this you can also prevent other family members from becoming infested. Wear long hair in a ponytail as much as possible. And preventively treat your hair with Elimax®.
That depends on whether you use Elimax® Lotion or Elimax® Shampoo. If you have used Elimax® Lotion, you need to wash your hair again with normal shampoo after the treatment. Elimax® Lotion kills lice and nits, and prevents re-infestation, but it does not wash your hair. If you use Elimax® Shampoo, your hair has already been washed.
You can use Elimax® as often as you like. Elimax® Shampoo in particular is very easy to use to wash your hair several times. One or two treatments are usually enough to get rid of the little creatures. However, you may then catch lice again from other people who have not been treated. In that case you can use Elimax® again without any risk. It will still be just as effective. As Elimax® has a physical effect, and therefore does not contain insecticides, lice cannot become resistant to Elimax®. Washing your hair with Elimax® Shampoo will wash your hair just as effectively as a normal 2-in-1 shampoo.
Yes, you can. Anyone can catch lice. However, you can avoid this by avoiding contact between your hair and that of your son or daughter. We also recommend that you preventively treat yourself with Elimax® Shampoo as this protects you against catching lice.
Elimax® Lotion and Elimax® Shampoo are two effective treatment products based on oligodecene oil and LPF®. Elimax® Shampoo contains extra foaming agents that ensure that you can rinse the product out of your hair without using extra shampoo. Elimax® Lotion consists of 100% oligodecene oil and LPF® but contains no foaming agents, so after treatment you need to wash your hair with another, normal shampoo.
When lice lay eggs, they stick them to your hair with a sort of glue. The glue is so strong that empty or dead nits stay stuck to the hair. It is not possible to see with the naked eye whether or not a nit is dead. For the treatment of head lice it is not necessary to remove the empty nits yourself or to cut the hair. However, it is best to check the hair again 7 days after treatment. Any nits you may have missed will have become young lice by this time, and are therefore easier to spot.
Elimax® has been specially developed to get rid of lice and nits. If you have a severe infestation, some eggs can hatch after the first treatment. In that case you will have newly hatched lice in your hair. But do not worry, it takes 10 days for these lice to become adults. Before they are adults, they feed on blood, but they cannot reproduce. Continue to treat your hair until all lice have gone.
No, nits are always found in the hair, close to the scalp.
Elimax® works in a physical way, without insecticides, which means that lice cannot become resistant to the ingredients. Reasons for unsuccessful treatment can be: incorrect diagnosis, failure to follow the instructions (not enough product, treatment period too short, removal of too few lice and eggs using a comb, etc.), (re-)infestation from untreated classmates or family members, no check-up 7 days after the first treatment with repeating of the treatment if necessary.
Elimax® is safe for children aged 1 or over. We recommend that a towel is placed around the shoulders at the start of treatment to collect any drips of the product. Always rinse everything thoroughly and avoid contact with the eyes.
You can purchase Elimax® from a pharmacist.
